I left my jade bonsai plants outside in the rain yesterday and I was wondering, based on my weather station‘s records of the rainfall, how much water they actually received. I started doing a little research and came upon a figure of 5.61 gallons per inch of rain in a square yard. With these starting values, I figured out that in a 4 inch bonsai pot, just under 1 cup of water will collect in the pot’s circumference for every 1/10 inch of rain. (If you have an 8 inch pot, it works out to just under 1.5 cups of water.) Hope that’s useful in some way. =)
